Abstract :

The study is designed to investigate the anti-tumorigenic effect of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ADMSCs) expressing TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL) on selected panel of tumour cell lines. Transfection of ADMSCs with the plasmid vector encoded for TRAIL was performed using optimized nucleofection protocol. Our findings indicated that the native ADMSCs are capable of inducing anti-tumorigenic effects through apoptotic induction, while nucleofected ADMSCs with TRAIL (ADMSCs-TRAIL) enhanced ADMSCs-mediated tumour inhibition. ADMSC-TRAIL was also capable of inducing cellular proliferative inhibition on tumours cells. In conclusion, we believe that ADMSCs-TRAIL has the potential to be utilised as a safe and yet effective treatment for cancer.
