National Surveillance on Antibiotic Resistance Report

for Year 2007

A total of 138,072 antibiotic resistance data were analysed for the year 2007, compared to 108,757 data from 10 hospitals in the year 2006.

These data were from routine antibiotic susceptibility test results, using zone diameter interpretive standards according to the CLSI Performing Standards for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing.

Data analysis was carried out using WHONET 5.4 software. Only data from 12 hospitals which sent data in WHONET format were included in the analysis for the year 2007. NSAR data 2002-2005 for download.

This report represents the average of resistance rates from the contributing hospitals. Please note that the resistant rates would be high when only a small number was tested. For some antibiotics that are categorized as second line antibiotic, they will only be tested if the isolates were resistant to the first line antibiotics.
