National Surveillance on Antibiotic Resistance Report

for Year 2008

A total of 160,811 isolates from 13 hospitals were analysed for the year 2008, compared to 138,07 isolates from 12 hospitals in the year 2007.

These data were from routine antibiotic susceptibility test results, using zone diameter interpretive standards according to the CLSI Performing Standards for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing.

Data analysis was carried using WHONET 5.4 software.

The last data received for the year 2008 was on 15 March 2008 .

This report represents the average of resistance rates from the contributing hospitals. Please note that the resistant rates would be high when only a small number was tested. For some antibiotics that are categorized as second lin e antibiotic, they will only be tested if the isolates were resistant to the first lin e antibiotics.

This report include:

  1. Summary of antibiotic resistance 2008
  2. Percentage of resistance of specific bacteria in major hospitals (Table 3)
  3. Percentage of common isolates from ICU (Table 4)
  4. Percentage of Gram-positive bacteria resistant to antibiotics (Table 5)
  5. Percentage of Gram-negative bacteria resistant to antibiotics (Table 6)
  6. Acinetobacter sp resistance pattern 2008 (Table 7)
