Phytochemistry Unit
| Introduction | Research |INTRODUCTION
The Phytochemistry Unit functions as a laboratory for herbal/plant collection and processing, sample preparation and chromatographic analysis of extracts, fractions and compounds isolated from herbs and medicinal plants. The collection of samples such as raw plant materials and extracts from other research institutions received by the unit before being distributed to other laboratories within IMR for bioassay and toxicity tests. This Unit also worked closely with other Units within HMRC and IMR to coordinate plant collection, identification and phytochemical analysis. This Unit is also capable of carrying out standardization of extracts and herbal products.
The Phytochemistry Unit plays a very important role in the collection of plants that is of interests to HMRC and has capabilities in the following areas:
Plant Sample Collection and Processing.
Plant Sample preparation for bioassay studies. Phytochemical Screening.
Fractionation and Isolation of bioactive compounds using techniques such as Flash Chromatography, Preparative TLC, Preparative HPLC, GC-MS, HPLC-UV, HPLC-Diode Array and LC-MS analysis
Preparation and Analysis of Standardized extracts by HPLC.
To carry out research on medicinal plants and herbs, conduct training in phytochemical analysis, consultancy services on the sample identification, collection, processing and development of quality of herbal products.
Method development for the analysis of phytochemicals.
Efficacy Study of Medicinal Mushrooms
Development of Herbal Products with antioxidant properties and weight reducing properties.
Isolation and identification of bioactive compounds of plant extracts.
Phytochemical profiling of plant extracts.
