Medical Photography & Audio Visual Unit
INTRODUCTION
The aim of this unit is to centralize documentation and multimedia resources and to provide photographic/audio-visual resvices in support of research, diagnostic, training and administrative activities at the IMR and the MOH.
We comprised of three sub-units that provide members of the teaching, clinical, research and administration centers of the Institute for Medical Research with photography, graphics and AVA support services.
The three functional sub-units that operate under the Unit of Medical Photography and Audio Visual are: Audio Visual Services, Digital Imaging Services and Medical Photography. The services that each unit provides may be used individually or in conjunction with the other sub-units of the Medical Photography & Audio visual Unit.
MISSON
Medical Photography and Audio Visual Unit is part of the Medical Resource Research Centre, Institute for Medical Research. We serve all the Centers of the Institute, Ministry of Health and other government agencies, providing innovative media solutions that support and enhance research, instructional and teaching goals.
MEDICAL PHOTOGRAPHY
The Unit of Medical Photography focuses on traditional photographic methods to accomplish a range of services for all Centers of the IMR, MOH, and other government agencies . Our staff includes professional photographers who are specifically trained and experienced in medical and technical photography, to provide you with high quality products.
Film Processing
Medical Photography processes black and white print film. Colour slide films are returned directly to you from commercial lab.
Macrophotography
We offer high-resolution macrophotography of specimens up to 9cm across at magnifications of 1x to 50x
Patient Photography
Staff photograph in the operating room, patient room, clinics, or anywhere that documentation of a finding or condition is needed for teaching, research or medical records.
Portraiture
Our photographers compose professional B&W or color portraits of individuals or groups, in a formal setting in our studio, or on location in your work setting.
Printing
We do B&W film printing from negatives in our darkroom. Colour film printing are outsourced to professional colour lab.
Radiograph Reproduction
Radiographic films are photographed to make black & white prints for displays or publications.
Slides
Medical Photography can photograph printed pages, existing photographs or slides, and reproduce them for many different uses, such as teaching or presentations.
Studio/Location Photography
Medical Photography uses traditional film photography for documenting equipment, specialized objects, and events either in your own setting or in our studio. There are times when digital photography may be more suitable. Consult with us about what is best for your situation.
DIGITAL IMAGING SERVICE
The Digital Imaging Service, incorporating the Computer Slide Imaging Service, is a service unit at Medical Photography & AVA that concentrates on offering digital products as well as printed, slide, or videotape products generated from digital files.
Computer Slide Imaging
We produce 35mm slides from computer files that you have created in various presentation and graphics software programs. We provide here step-by-step instructions for the most commonly-used software programs, to prepare your files for imaging to slides.
Digital Video Filming and Editing
Digital video is a versatile medium for documenting surgery, grand rounds, laboratory results, seminars and other events. We provide digital footage that you can use in PowerPoint presentations, on Web sites, videotape or CD, for such purposes as professional meetings and training sessions.
Patient Photography
There are times when digital photography is more appropriate than traditional photography with a film camera. We can advise you on this. Our staff can photograph in the operating room, patient room, clinic, or anywhere that documentation of a finding or condition is needed for teaching, research, or medical records.
Portraiture
Our digital photographers compose professional color portraits of individuals or groups, in a formal setting in our studio, or on location in your work setting. Digital photography makes compositing or collaging easy, and is great for portraits destined for a Web site.
Printing
We can print your digital B&W and color files on our bubble jet colour printer. Such prints are appropriate for publication, dissertations, exhibits, and archival portraits.
Scanning
We translate your original work into electronic files from slides, negatives or radiographic films up to 14 x 17 inches. Files are available to you as is, or we can use them subsequently to create a customized layout or exhibit.
Studio/Location Photography
We can photograph specimens or instruments, etc., in the controlled environment of our studio, or we can come to your location to document procedures or events.
CD Writing
We can write your digital files to CD. The CD can be made for Windows or Mac use, or for use on both platforms.
AUDIO VISUAL SERVICE
Media presentation affects learning. We provide complete presentation services for all events, Continuing Medical Education (CME), courses as well as video recordings (S-VHS and DV format) and support for distance learning and teleconferencing. We support IMR's auditoriums, meeting rooms and lecture halls with:
