INTRODUCTION
The Biotechnology Centre of the IMR was established on 1 October 1992. Initially it existed under the name of Division of Malaria and Filariasis. With the restructuring of the IMR, Biotechnology Centre was then named Unit of Biotechnology. The aim of this unit is: to facilitate research in biotechnology through the provision of relevant biotechnological techniques; to strengthen capabilities of the unit in terms of man-power, technical skills and acquisition of equipments required in bitechnological research; and to provide training in biotechnological techniques for researchers and students.
